Did You Know?

A Fresh Expression of Ministry

Take a deep breath! We are living during a time when the world continues to change before our eyes. All that we thought we knew seems to be so scattered and distorted. What better time to consider a new expression of ministry? As we learn to live after a pandemic and restore those who are broken to wholeness, we must consider how to share the light and hope of Jesus.
I am confident that there are many new expressions of ministry waiting to be birthed. Those that are considering something new in this season should approach this faith journey with RAISE in mind and consider the following qualities:
Resilience – the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties, toughness
Agility – the ability to move quickly and easily
Integrity – being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness
Spiritual – highly concerned with religious values
Entrepreneurial – identifies a need and seizes the opportunity and risk to meet that need
As a New Church Coach, I have been front and center while witnessing new expressions of ministry, even during the pandemic. It may be that you are called to something new and different. It’s okay. This doesn’t mean that it will be easy and without complications. Just know that during the process you have others that will walk along side of you.
The goal as a New Church Coach is to support and encourage the new church planting process. We are accountability partners. We provide coaching by helping pastors discover and achieve their own way. We don’t point and tell but provide insight and help you continue to dream in new and fresh ways.
I have been blessed over the years to witness the ministry successes across our denomination – and those expressions don’t all look the same.

So, my question is, what’s new brewing in you?

Meet the Guests of Our Next Webinar!

Are you struggling to support children and youth in your faith community who are experiencing grief, but feel like you aren’t equipped to do so? If so, then join us for our upcoming New Church Hacks (NCH) episode, where our expert panelists, including those who work in the fields of education, ministry, mental health, and more, will share what they’ve learned with you.

Christle Reed
has worked in the education field for more than a decade. Each year has been directly focused on servicing the social/emotional needs of her students. She is also a published author with one of her books, Hugs from the Sky, being used across the United States to help support students grieving the loss of a loved one.
Mariah Newell
is an ordained minister who serves as the Kids, Youth, and Family Minister at Cypress Creek Christian Church in Northwest Houston, Texas. Mariah has spent the last five years serving at Cypress Creek. Before that, she served as the Program Director at Camp MoVal in Union, Missouri. Ministering to kids and youth is where Mariah has and continues to feel called to serve. She feels passionate about sharing the stories of compassion, innovation, radical inclusion, and love she sees the younger generations bring to the Table that tends to be overlooked or unappreciated.

Find more information about our additional panelists, other NCH episodes, and more on our website.

Students, Ecumenical Partners Welcome at Leadership Academy

Are you someone who has considered starting a new community of faith? Do you feel as though God might be calling you to start a place of worship, but you don’t know where to begin? New Church Ministry wants to help you along your discernment journey. This year for
Leadership Academy, we are creating a group of Discerners that will collectively audit the START TRACK to find out what it takes to start a new faith community from scratch.

We understand that typically Leadership Academy is for folks who have regional backing, a core team assembled, and have the funding necessary to attend. That can be a big financial commitment for someone who is just discerning what it might look like to start a church. This year, we have a coupon code specifically for this group, including undergraduate students, seminarians, and ecumenical partners, that will make the registration fee only US $50 per individual for the three-day virtual event.

Following the event, we will follow up to see if this helped solidify what God is calling you to, or if you feel you need more training and guidance. Regardless, we are here to help.

Registration opens August 1. Use DISCERN22 to receive your discounted rate.

DCEF Offering Technology Loans

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, many Disciples congregations have been learning how to go hybrid, providing both in-person and digital worship services, Bible studies, and more.
Disciples Church Extension Fund (DCEF) is offering loans of up to US $50,000 for technology upgrades to help qualified congregations pivot to a stronger online presence moving forward. The technology needs of congregations can include tangible equipment purchases and upgrades to undergird the church’s ability to connect with their members virtually. These technology loans are available through December 31, 2022, at .25% below DCEF’s current rate for loans with comparable terms.

To apply, contact the Building and Capital Services Advisor assigned to your region; call 800.274.1883 or visit DCEF’s website for contact information: disciplescef.org/about/staff.
