January 2023

Did You Know?

Welcome to 2023 new church! I hope this doesn’t become a cliché or pedestrian when I say that I feel that 2023 is going to bring a whole lot of excitement - the good! As shared in the December issue of our newsletter, New Church Ministry has many things in store for the next 12 months, from the new curriculum for Leadership Academy, to new partnerships, and more importantly, to our workshop at General Assembly, Disciples Next, which will explore how Disciples can establish new congregations in a world recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.

I do hope that you look forward to GA and are able to come see us in Louisville, KY. This year’s assembly is poised to revive and renew our movement. Remember, we are a “movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.” Although that identity statement was made before the pandemic, as time has gone on, it has become more relevant. There’s no better time than now for us to be reaching out into our communities that are suffering, not only from gun violence and racial injustice, but also from the trauma that the pandemic has had on our neighbors. If you are a New Year’s resolution kind of person, then I propose a resolution for the new church movement. The resolution is simply this: let us be the movement that God wants us to be in 2023.

Disciples Church Extension Fund is hiring

Do you want to work for a ministry that inspires and empowers congregations to create Holy Places where people connect with each other, God, and their communities? If so, then consider becoming a part of
Disciples Church Extension Fund (DCEF), a general ministry of the denomination that provides building and capital planning services. DCEF is currently looking to fill two vacant positions, both of which operate out of a hybrid work environment:
  • Chief Financial Officer: This position oversees all aspects of the financial operations department including but not limited to accounting, financial planning, budget process, cash management, accounts payable, audits, loans, and investments to ensure the overall and enduring financial health of DCEF. This role will also participate in the strategic oversight of DCEF’s mission so that organizational priorities are implemented in financially prudent manners.
  • Development Coordinator: This position actively supports relationship building initiatives in concert with the development team’s strategies.
